Stini Arn

Stini Arn is an artist who works with fabric and sound. After studying jewelry and product design in Zurich, she moved to New York in 1995, where she worked in film prop studios. The city inspired her to create a 16mm short film, which won the Gold Award at the New York Expo for Short Film and Video in 1996—a turning point that marked her shift toward sound art. In the years that followed, she created sound installations, performances, and compositions for theater, video, and radio productions. In 2008, she earned a Master of Sound Studies from UdK, the Berlin University of the Arts.

Following her first trip to Mali, she created the sound installation “Webstall”, which served as the starting point for her artistic exploration of weaving. During her ten years in Mali, she built Flying-8 looms developed by Andreas Möller and, together with Ousmane Diallo, founded the weaving school Centre Yiriba. Her goal was to promote local cotton, plant-based dyes, and traditional hand weaving. Her fabric lines “Yiriba Textile” and “Bamakoton Design” are available in Mali and Switzerland.

Since 2023, Stini Arn has also been working as a sound therapist KLA®, offering sessions on the monochord sound bed in Pignia, her home in the Swiss Alps. At Webstall Pignia, she organizes workshops and exhibitions with other artists—with a special focus on textile practices, weaving, and the connection between material and sound.
