Mali Projects

Swiss artist and sound composer Stini Arn first discovered Mali in 2004 and was immediately captivated by the everyday and work rhythms that shaped life there. She returned in 2010 to conduct research and recordings for the radio piece “Mille Fois” for Radio DRS 2. Three years later, she moved to Bamako to stay with the Mallé family, living and working there until 2023.

For many years, Stini Arn has explored not only sound but also the history of textiles worldwide, with a particular focus on loom weaving. In Bamako, she founded the Centre Yiriba, where she works with Malian weavers to revive nearly forgotten traditional techniques, patterns, and fabrics.

In 2015, Stini Arn also opened Atelier Yiriba, an open space for the creative development of children from the Daoudabougou neighborhood.
